Slido Culture Code: Who We Are, Why We Exist and What We Believe In

Peter Komornik

Back in 2013, we all sat together in one room. We didn’t have any windows in the room, but we had our values on the wall. They were that important to us. They reflected who we were and who we still are. And how we strive to do things here at Slido.

We knew well that values are just empty words if they only remain painted on the wall. So we took them to heart and tried to live by them right from the beginning.

Our values are our North Star when we are developing a product, communicating with clients or tackling daily challenges.

Over the years, simply clever helped us prioritize the client feedback and avoid cluttering the product. If the feature was not simple and clever enough, we ditched the idea.

We care motivated us to go the extra mile for the clients. It sometimes meant hopping on a plane unexpectedly just to make sure an event went well. But it also meant that we always look after each other, too.

Don’t stop pushed us through the gritty beginnings, which occasionally meant sleeping on a yoga mat. We still live by it when we tackle new challenges as they come our way.

Fast-forward six years.

From a room with six members, we have grown to a team of 130 brilliant people.

One question that many growing companies ask at this point is if the culture is scalable.

We believe it is.

In a recent survey, we asked the team why they work at Slido. And we received dozens of powerful answers confirming that people do relate to the values and live by them.

In fact, it’s one of the key reasons why they work at Slido. This is what they said:

“I feel that I can have a big impact. Because I can relate greatly to the company vision, the impact of the product, people, values. And I love the whole combo – so inspiring and such a great space to learn and grow.”

“I like helping people, and Slido enables me to do that. On top of that, I love the mindset in Slido: a family-oriented, don’t stop attitude and always trying to improve ourselves and the product.”

“Because of the people. Everyone is willing to help out and go the “extra mile,” not just with customers but also with each other. ”

Inspired by Netflix, we decided to put our values and culture code together. We thought it’d be a pity not to share it publicly.

So here it is. This is who we are, why we exist and what we believe in. Thank you Zoom, Slack, Netflix and many others for inspiring us on our journey.

Do you have a culture code? What are your thoughts on ours? We’d love to hear from you.
